Leaha Severson
Black Gold School Division
High School Counsellor
Beaumont, Alberta
Leaha Severson Leaha has been working with families for over 10 years in a variety of capacities. She first began working with families as a volunteer with Stollery Children’s Hospital. As a fellow childhood cancer survivor and amputee, she mentored families through their journey of amputation and treatment. This experience is, in part, what inspired Leaha to pursue a career in counselling. She earned her Bachelor of Education in 2013 and then went on and completed her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology in 2021. Leaha is currently pursuing her registration as a Canadian Certified Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. She has worked as a High School Counsellor for the past 7 years within Black Gold School Division. Leaha has a passion for working with youth and their families. Her goal is to support youth and their families through a relationship built on respect, trust, acceptance, and curiosity. She views herself as a guide to help each student develop healthy relationships and connections with self and others, explore and express their feelings, build life skills, and engage in problem-solving, self-exploration, and processing their experiences. On a personal note, she has two small children and a husband. As a family, they enjoy camping and quadding adventures. In the summer, they spend as much time as possible outdoors, visiting family and friends, and frequenting parks and playgrounds.
