How killer giant beavers, the debate between the spermists and the ovists, and the cross-curricular story of nylon can help engage students, illuminate the process of science, and incorporate indigenous perspectives into your science practice. This talk will address the importance of storytelling for humanizing scientists and revealing the process of science in science education. I have included some of my favorite stories that can be slipped into science lessons for divisions 2-4 (although high school is my world). Attendees will leave with some stories they likely haven’t heard before, and concrete ideas for using stories to help incorporate indigenous perspectives into their classroom.
