Many students who know multiplication facts are not able to think multiplicatively! As a result, they are not sure of what multiplication is all about. Our job: prepare kids to think multiplicatively before we ask them to multiply or divide. Doing so will help students see that multiplicative thinking is a very valuable upgrade to additive thinking to solve Div. 2 problems. This session will help you make multiplication and division more visual and tangible to help kids see operations in action! Every step along the way will focus on answering the following two questions: What does multiplication look like? How does it work? We will look at models that match the math behind the answers. Along the way, we will analyze how a problem changes along its solution path. That change is key to understanding the true meaning of multiplicative thinking. Come and open the GATE for your students’ future success in math.
